Seeking the Women's Vote
Saturday, November 01 @ 00:00:00 CDT by admin (296 reads)
From the Editor's DeskI have always been an advocate of the individual's right to vote and what should be their "voice" in government (very lacking in recent times), and particularly Women's Rights. The latter has been a hot topic of conversation over the past few years and has been volleyed around from candidate to candidate in the current Presidential election.

Both the Republican and Democratic candidates have put great effort into gaining the women's vote. They speak of women's rights as if those rights are a negotiable part of the issues. They shouldn't be. Women are not aliens from another planet. We are not some rare form of animal species. We should share equal rights with men. However, we don't.

Great strides have been made this year with a woman vying for the presidency (Clinton) and with a candidate choosing a woman (Palin) as his running mate. But that does not make up for women trying to survive on unequal pay, unfair consideration for jobs and promotions and the chauvinistic attitude towards women's health issues. What we need is a modern day Abigail Adams to speak out for women and life in general.

The Message of the Day is to Vote!
Monday, October 27 @ 00:00:00 CDT by admin (191 reads)
From the Editor's DeskSince the inception of Femme Erotique, I have gone out of my way to ride the center of the political fence, not expressing one choice over the other, with the intent of NOT intimidating or influencing our readers. However, I cannot say it enough -- each and every one of us must be sure to go out and vote for the candidate of our choice!

As women, we have worked extremely hard to obtain and keep our right to vote. The "Founding Mothers" wanted to be sure that the right to vote extended to ALL United States citizens. Unfortunately, the "Founding Fathers" left that part out and it took decades before women who were natural born citizens could exercise their natural born right.

The 2008 election process has been hotly contested with claims and pain on both sides of the fence. Every United States citizen has the right to their own opinion regarding the election and the election process. Be proud that you are a United States citizen and exercise your right -- Vote on November 4th for the candidate of your choice.

Medical News: Coffee -- The New Health Food?
Wednesday, August 23 @ 00:00:00 CDT by staff (243 reads)
Medical NewsLike many adults in their Middle Ages, I try to be health-conscious. I watch my weight (rising like gas prices), eat healthy and take my vitamins and supplements. Except for the bone and joint problems, I am basically healthy. There are absolutely no signs of heart disease or cancer. I have inherited Diabetes from my mother’s side of the family. Granny was on insulin, but I have managed to stay away from medications and injections by watching my blood sugar and keeping my diabetes under control with diet and exercise.

You can imagine my interest when I learned of a study conducted by researchers at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. These researchers found drinking decaffeinated coffee may lower an individual’s risk for type 2 diabetes. Okay, we know that decaf just doesn’t have the same flavor and palatability that the regular, rich-bodied roast has, but lowering the risk for diabetes is a definite plus in its favor.

Identity Theft -- Can You Protect Yourself
Thursday, May 25 @ 10:17:09 CDT by staff (255 reads)
From the Editor's DeskIdentity Theft is a major concern for everyone. In light of the recent problem at the Veterans Administration, this is definitely a major concern. There are some ways you can protect yourself. The following is some advice submitted anonymously by an attorney who wants to share this knowledge with everyone. Readers may want to print out a copy for reference.

A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company.

1. The next time you order checks have only your initials (instead of first name) and last name put on them. If someone takes your checkbook, they will not know if you sign your checks with just your initials or your first name, but your bank will know how you sign your checks.

I Need A Vacation!
Thursday, May 25 @ 10:04:27 CDT by staff (341 reads)
ConventionsWhen warm weather hits, that is usually the first thing said. However, with gas prices competing for the National Debt, where can you go and get the biggest bang for your buck? And, what about taking time out from work? Or, what can you do that is different? The word "vacation" usually conjures up images of a favorite camping spot, a city, a beach or the mountains. And Traffic -- lots and lots of traffic!

If you bring up the same topic in a group of science fiction/fantasy fans you'll get an entirely different response. They will mention a specific city and a convention with a strange name ending in the syllable "con". These fans are fanatic about their favorites -- whether it be a favorite author, a book, a movie or a minor character in the tenth episode of some obscure B movie. They also feel the same way about their favorite convention.

Most of these conventions take place over a non-holiday weekend (Holidays usually involve a 4-day span starting with a Thursday or Friday) in a city with a familiar name (i.e., Tampa Florida, Baltimore Maryland, Richmond Virginia, Atlanta, Georgia). Hotel rates are kept low because the fan committee can guarantee occupancy in a large block of rooms, keeping both their fans and the hotel happy. Events are generally planned around the clock to keep the coffee pots going and the fans bleary-eyed. Many conventions incude activities for the younger set.
